'DC Talking Absolute Nonsense' – Daniel Cormier Slammed For Trying To Justify Matching Conor McGregor Against Islam Makhachev

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier’s take on Islam Makhachev’s next fight has been ripped apart by some MMA fans.

Makhachev defeated Alexander Volkanovski by first-round head kick knockout at UFC 294 last Saturday. He put an exclamation point to his rivalry with Volkanovski and is now awaiting his next lightweight title challenger.

Makhachev’s next Octagon assignment, as of this writing, is unclear. He could potentially move up to welterweight to challenge the winner of Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington to become a multi-division champion.

But, Cormier thinks Makhachev should seize the opportunity to change his life financially forever.

Daniel Cormier: I Want Islam Makhachev vs. Conor McGregor Next

Cormier pitched a Makhachev vs. McGregor fight during a recent episode of DC&RC.

As you can see below, MMA fans had a field day with Cormier’s comments.

Cormier retired following a trilogy loss to Stipe Miocic in 2020. Since turning his full-time attention towards broadcasting, he’s become one of ESPN’s top MMA analysts.

Makhachev and Cormier were also teammates together at American Kickboxing Academy in California. Khabib Nurmagomedov, who defeated McGregor during his legendary career, is also one of his coaches.

McGregor is expected to face Michael Chandler for his comeback fight next year. He hasn’t fought since shattering his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

Many feel that McGregor needs a few wins before warranting a title shot against Makhachev, but Cormier thinks the lightweight champion should call his shots.
