Coach Eric Nicksick Explains How Francis Ngannou Listens To Mike Tyson More Than Him

In less than ten days, Francis Ngannou will box Tyson Fury on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.

When he left the UFC earlier this year, vacating the heavyweight title in the process, a lot of people were quick to criticise the former champion.

Sticking to his guns, Ngannou was able to secure a great contract with the PFL and the biggest possible boxing match that is out there for him.

To help prepare him one of the consensus best heavyweights of all time, Ngannou has enlisted the help of another man to be in contention for that title, the great Mike Tyson.

The videos of their training have been captivating to watch and Ngannou’s coach Eric Nicksick says that there is no surprise that their relationship has been a huge part of the build-up to this fight.

Eric Nicksick Says That Francis Ngannou Listens To Mike Tyson More Than Him

In an interview with Morning Kombat, Nicksick sat down to speak about all the work that he does as a coach.

As the head coach of Xtreme Couture, Nicksick has been a big part of Ngannou’s rise in MMA after he joined the gym following his loss to Stipe Miocic before climbing his way back up the rankings to become the champion.

Whilst he is a very well respected coach, Nicksick was happy to admit that when it comes to his training for this bout, Ngannou will listen more to “Iron” Mike and take on the information immediately.

“I think it’s a very cool dynamic and it’s you know, Francis will listen to you but he has a different type of respect when it comes from Mike Tyson and you can feel that with him. You know, me coaching Francis for the last five years, for me I always had to approach things different with Francis in a way where you had to explain things to him so he understood the reasons why. If Mike tells you to do this, you just do it.

“Me, I’m like ‘hey man, you want to throw a jab to the chest to negate level change or you want to do this to set this up or do this?’, and once he understands the reasons, he would go about and do it. With Mike, ‘no problem man I’m on it, I’ll do that right away’ and so it’s been a lot of fun for all of us because you know, you put you sit back and you put your learning hat on and you’re able to learn from one of the greats.”
