It has been over three years since EA Sports released its fourth UFC game. EA Sports UFC 4 was released on August 14, 2020, and was well-received by almost 50 different reviewers, according to Metacritic. The previous game’s success led to excited anticipation when EA Sports announced its successor, EA Sports UFC 5, on July 8.
On September 7, EA Sports revealed the first cinematic trailer for the upcoming game, which added to the intrigue for the new title. It showed fans a fresh look at some of the improved character designs and some teased new features for the game. Another thing that got UFC fans’ attention was the reveal that heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko, alongside boxing legends Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, would be playable characters for the first time in the series.
The game will be released worldwide for fans on October 27 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for $69.99. It will be the first of the series to not be playable on last-generation platforms and, as of now, will not be on PC.
While fans will have to wait a few more days for the game’s worldwide release, players could also play sooner.
Release Date And Information For EA Sports UFC 5 Deluxe Edition
Fans can play EA Sports UFC 5 on October 24 if they pre-order the deluxe edition. However, it comes at an expensive price as it costs $99.99. This game version will come with Emelianenko, Tyson, and Ali as playable characters at no additional cost.
The upcoming game will introduce “Alter Egos,” which will have different appearances and skills for select fighters. For example, fans could play as the 2013 version of Conor McGregor or a younger Jon Jones. The EA Sports UFC Deluxe Edition has nine different “Alter Egos” available at no additional cost.
Although more expensive, it has added downloadable content and the ability to play three days early, making it worth purchasing.
New Features In EA Sports UFC 5
Since the trailer came out, EA Sports has posted videos on their YouTube channel to showcase what fans should expect from EA Sports UFC 5. These videos showcased actual gameplay, considering the difference from the previous game.
One of the new features is that Frostbite Engine powers the upcoming game. Using the game engine allows for improved graphics and character models that look more realistic to the fighters. It also makes the gameplay look smoother, as players can notice when striking or grappling. The striking combinations come together more fluidly, and players can transition on the ground and into submission hold more seamlessly.
When fighting, characters can get cuts, bruising, and swelling that can affect their actions or the fight. It adds to the game’s realism and puts players on guard to not receive too much damage that can hurt their chances of winning. For example, damaging someone’s nose could affect a character’s stamina, as it troubles their breathing. Another example is that doctors can step in and end a fight if a cut is too bad.
The game also adds small detail features like the “Cinematic K.O. Replay,” which players can activate after getting a knockout. This is also an excellent way to see how a fan knockout came together that looks great with realistic graphics and animations.
More On New Features in EA Sports UFC 5
A welcomed addition to EA Sports UFC 5 is more options for fans who like to play online. The upcoming game will allow fans to utilize their created characters for Online Career Mode.
This allows players to make multiple characters against other people’s created fighters based on their skill level and weight class. Earning wins against other opponents’ characters could lead to “Division progression and title chases across four divisions,” according to EA Sports. Another reward for playing online is that players can earn evolution points that can be used to make the created character stronger.
Fans can also pick winners in real fights from UFC pay-per-view events for special rewards with Fight Pick Mode. The results are tallied on a leadership board with other players who made predictions to see who has the best picks. The players on the top of the leadership board are given unique in-game coins that can be used to buy items.
Career Mode also comes back with new scenarios and cutscenes. Like the previous game, fans are trained by the original EA Sports UFC character, Coach Davis. However, in this game, former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko has provided voice-over work and helps you as a character in Career Mode.
EA Sports UFC 5 has the potential to be the best UFC game of the franchise. While it took over three years for a new game, EA Sports effectively used the time to craft something special.
Fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the upcoming game. However, the option to play on October 24 with the new features and added downloadable content may entice gamers to pay a little more than the standard price.
