The upcoming release of EA Sports UFC 5 has gained intrigue for what is in store for fans of the MMA franchise. The game will be released on October 27 for $69.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players can also pre-order the deluxe edition worth $99.99, allowing you to play the game three days early, access to special characters Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Fedor Emelianenko, and other downloadable content.
One of the questions that fans have wondered is who will be in the game and what the overall ratings will be for their favorite fighter. EA Sports has yet to reveal all the fighters that would be in the game, but they have shared the top overall fighters in each division for men and women on their website.
Choosing who was ranked in the top five of each division or skill set could lead to fan debates. Here are some takeaways fans should consider with the current overall fighters in EA Sports UFC 5.
Three Inactive Fighters Ranked Number One For Their Division
One of the surprises for this year’s game is that three fighters who aren’t active in UFC or MMA are ranked at the top of their division. EA Sports has added great legacy fighters who used to compete in UFC, like current ONE Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson, who is in the upcoming game.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is ranked first in the lightweight division in EA Sports UFC 5. He has a five-star overall rating and is ranked ahead of Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveria, and Dustin Poirier, who all have a four-and-a-half-star rating. UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev also has five stars but has lower stats in specific categories, like submission offense and defense, which ranks him second behind Nurmagomedov.
In the welterweight division, George St. Pierre (Legacy Version) is ranked number one with five stars ahead of current UFC Welterweight Champion Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman, Colby Covington, and Shavkat Rakhmonov. This is interesting as EA Sports chose not to include Khazmat Chimaev, Belal Muhammad, or Gilbert Burns, who are in the top five of the active UFC welterweight rankings.
At middleweight, Anderson Silva (Legacy Version) is at the top of the overall ratings. He’s ahead of UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, and Dricus Du Plessis. UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping is also in the top five of the division, while Robert Whittaker, Jared Cannonier, and Marvin Vettori didn’t make it.
EA Sports having Nurmagomedov, St. Pierre, and Silva ranked ahead of active UFC fighters is an interesting choice. It may rub fans the wrong way that active fighters in the UFC rankings aren’t in the top five of the division. However, it does lead to great conversations about how fans will view the three UFC Hall of Famer fighters compared to talent today.

Derrick Lewis Is The Best Power Puncher In The Game
Fans of UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis will have a great time playing with him in the upcoming game. He is recognized as one of the best power punchers in UFC history, so he should be ranked number one in punching power in the skills ranking. He has an astonishing 100 overall rating in the category.
The only fighter that has a 100 overall rating in punching power in UFC EA Sports 5 besides Lewis is heavyweight boxing legend Tyson. Playing as Lewis in the game could put you at an advantage, as a few clean punches could lead to a victory.
Miesha Tate Is Ranked In The Top Five Of The Women’s Bantamweight Division
There are several debatable choices that EA Sports made in having certain fighters ranked in the top five of their weight class. However, the most questionable choice is having Miesha Tate ranked in the top five of the women’s bantamweight division.
EA Sports UFC 5 does have her fifth in the division behind Amanda Nunes, Valentina Shevchenko, Holly Holm, and Julianna Peña. She is an interesting choice, considering she is ranked 11 in the current UFC women’s bantamweight division.
That’s not to say that Tate isn’t a gifted fighter because she has accomplished great things in the UFC. However, the exclusion of Raquel Pennington, Ketlen Vieira, or Irene Aldana in the top five for Tate seems like a questionable decision.
Final Thoughts On The EA Sports UFC 5 Overall Ratings
EA Sports UFC 5 overall ratings are a good way to look at a fighter’s strengths and weaknesses as you play against others. However, it’s not an accurate valuation of the fighters or how fans will be able to win in the game.
Lewis may have a 100 in punching power, but it doesn’t guarantee players that he can get you an easy knockout win. Another example is Tate being the fifth-best women’s bantamweight in the game, which doesn’t mean that she’ll be as effective as playing as someone ranked below her.
Ultimately, it will come down to how a player utilizes a fighter they choose in the game to be victorious.
