Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou is here. After months of negotiation, we finally get to see what happens when these two heavy hitters share the ring in the aptly named ‘Rumble in Riyadh’ live on Saturday. Despite Fury being the WBC heavyweight champion, his belt is not on the line against Ngannou (he needs it for the next assignment after Ngannou!). In his most recent appearance, Fury toppled Derek Chisora via tenth-round (T)KO to retain his championship this past December. After that fight, the 35-year-old faced off against two potential opponents in the ring: Oleksandr Usyk and Joe Joyce. But before he addressed either of those names, Fury opted to face Ngannou first.

“I’m absolutely honored to be fighting Francis,” said Fury via Top Rank press release. “He’s going to be a very, very good fighting man. You can see that he’s massive. He’s in shape. He’s going to be a real challenge. It’s something different for me. I’m used to boxing boxers and boxing the head off of somebody. But fighting an MMA guy who comes in with a different style is going to be different.”

Though this is his first foray into boxing, Ngannou has a reputation for his frightening finishes in the UFC. On his way to the UFC heavyweight championship, the ‘Predator’ KO’d names such as Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Cain Velasquez, and finally, Stipe Miocic to capture gold. He defended it once with a decision against Ciryl Gane in 2022 before completing his current contract and leaving the promotion in 2023 when negotiations fell though. Now he returns to action in one of the biggest fights of his career.

“I am very excited,” said Ngannou. “I am very happy. I have been dreaming of becoming a boxer since I was a kid. And today, I’m not just going to box; I’m going to box the guy at the peak of the mountain. Usually, I would not pay attention to what is going around. But this thing is so big that I can’t stop thinking about it. History is going to be made.”
