UFC Extends Partnership With Abu Dhabi Department Of Culture & Tourism Until 2028

The UFC and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism have announced an extension of their partnership until 2028.

In the past 14 years, the promotion has hosted 18 events in the region, having entered into a partnership back in 2019.

Part of the extension includes the UFC hosting one numbered pay-per-view event featuring a championship bout per year, with the addition of Fight Night events that will be hosted in the Middle East and in North Africa.

In a press release, HE Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, the Undersecretary of DCT Abu Dhabi, spoke about establishing Abu Dhabi as the world capital of combat sports.

“Bringing UFC to Abu Dhabi each year has proved hugely popular, with MMA fans coming to the emirate from all over the world to watch the biggest and best fights in the sport. Over a 15-year relationship, UFC has extended its global reach and Abu Dhabi has established itself as a world capital for combat sports.

“Renewing our partnership with UFC allows us to continue to stage major events that thrill visitors and residents. We are excited to extend the relationship and innovate together to grow this sport in the UAE and wider region.”

Dana White Excited To Bring Fight Night Events To The Region: ‘I Love It Here’

Throughout the original deal, nine title fights have gone down in Abu Dhabi, showcasing some of the best talent MMA has to offer.

This weekend at UFC 294 will be no different, with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev defending his title against the 145-pound kingpin Alexander Volkanovski in a highly anticipated rematch.

The only big change in this extension is the additional Fight Nights that the region will now be hosting, with the inclusion of North Africa sure to raise some eyebrows.

UFC CEO Dana White commented on the extension, speaking about his experiences hosting events in Abu Dhabi and how he is excited for this to continue for the foreseeable future.

“Abu Dhabi is one of my favourite places in the world; the people, the restaurants, the hotels, it’s incredible. I have been so excited to be able to put on some of the biggest fights in the history of UFC in Abu Dhabi and it’s only going to get even bigger from here with additional Fight Nights coming to the region next year. I love it here.”
